Marrakech

March 24 & 25, 2019

So we flew on a little plane over to Marrakech.  I was worried I would get sick but the flight was pretty smooth.  TP Air Portugal is actually a pretty good airline!  We flew with them for all of our international flights.  Oh in case you were wondering, we went from HNL-SFO-JFK-LIS (Lisbon)-FES.  On the way home we went from RAK (Marrakech)-LIS-JFK-HNL.  Taking a breather in New York was a nice way to break up all of those flights

We arrived in Marrakech in the early evening so we didn't do much that day.  It was nice to just get settled in and relax for the evening.

We stayed at Riad Le Jardin Des Sans.  And I can't believe it but I don't think I have any pictures of this place.  What an idiot!!!  It wasn't as nice as the other place so you're not missing much.

The next day we took a tuktuk to Jardin Marjorelle Garden.  I think it cost us about 5 bucks for the four of us.  This guy was super nice.  Khalil (the dude in brown) is one of the workers at the riad.  He set it up so when we text "tuktuk" to him he would pick us up later on in the afternoon.  That's about all we could do since he didn't speak English.  We weren't sure if it would work but he showed up about 10 minutes after we texted him!  Having Khalil was good too because we didn't have to negotiate a price.  He did it for us.

Surprisingly we all fit in this little thing!

We left a little later than expected so when we got there there was a loooooong line to get in.  I really didn't want to wait but we didn't have anything else planned so what da hell...can you find Randy and Evam?  They're kind of hiding so it's kind of hard.  Anyways, we were standing in line for about 45 mins before we got to this spot.

While we were walking around I heard these cute squeaky sounds, and I couldn't figure out where it was coming from.  We listened closely and noticed there were these tiny frogs in the pond, I guess they're like coqui frogs.  If you look real close you can see them

Tomorrow we go to the Atlas Mountains and a Berber Village!

Fez Day 4

March 23, 2019

Today we didn't do much, we walked around the medina and then strolled over to a nearby garden.  What's the name you say?  Uhhhhhh, hehe I got no clue.  I gotta go see if Randy kept the maps that the riad gave us.  I didn't take much pics today so this is gonna be a really short post. Yay for me!

While Randy went on his morning walk he bought a couple of doughuts on the street.  Guess how much they cost....TEN CENTS EACH!!  And they were delicious!  They weren't that sweet but it was super chewy and  yummy.

So these are the maps that have the name of this garden....

Meknes, Moulay Idriss and Volubiliss

Fez Day 3
March 22, 2019

We didn't sleep good again but at least this time I was prepared for my moon shots...
IMG_-2372
It was pretty neat because there were a lot of birds flying around so I took a bunch of shots to try and get them in the same frame.  I really hope we didn't wake anyone up.  We were cracking up cause I would have my eye in the view finder and Susie would be yelling "oook, coming from the right, get ready!!  NOW!" over and over again.  I'm surprised these actually came out in focus cause I was laughing the whole time!

Ok so I suck.  Today was a field trip day and of course I slept the whole way over to our destination.  I think it was a two hour drive.  We headed west to Meknes first only to find out that the Mausoleum of Mouay Ismail was closed.  I forget why.  But first we stopped here (hehe I have no idea where this is!)
IMG_-2417
This is the Mausoleum...yah, not much to see here...
IMG_-2424
We walked around Bab El Mansour but there wasn't much to see here either(we probably didn't try hard enough)

After Meknes we drove to Moulay Idriss where we had lunch reservations at Scorpion House. We took one look at the pictures and knew we had to go.  This place was beautiful.

This lunch was super yummy...don't mind the date, they said it was the same menu :)
IMG_-2435
yup, more bread!

Isn't this so cute??
IMG_-2430
yummmmmmmm nomnomnomnom

IMG_-2446
Once again it was way too much food.  Susie literally passed out on the bench she was so full, and tired!

Until the resident dogs arrived...this is Duster

And this is Pogo.  These were two of the most mellow dogs on the planet.  They must get sick of everyone wanting to pet them all day

After lunch we headed to our last stop Volubiliss.  This place was a total bust also. Don't get me wrong, it was beautiful like everywhere else, but after such a big meal everyone was exhausted.  We didn't spend as much time here as we should've

I got another nice nap on the way back.  I hopped off the van and saw a donkey.  They were all around the place but I never seemed to have my phone or camera ready when they came nearby
IMG_1230
Just a small observation...they sell a lot of sweets in Morocco, most of them made with honey.  There's always a TON of bees flying on or around them and no one even pays attention to them.  I guess they're cleaner than flys??
This picture isn't even that bad.  I seen way worse
