Look what came in today!!

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Earlier this month I entered a National Geographic "Peeps in Places" Contest. Unfortunately I didn't win (grrrr....) but I did make it as a runner up! As a reward, I received a year subscription to National Geographic Traveler and a suitcase full of Peeps goodies. I was so excited when I saw a box waiting for me when I got home today from work cause I knew exactly what it was! For the slideshow of the winners, you can check them out here...

Thanks Jalna and CQ! You'll be getting some Peeps goodies tomorrow!

Feria De Mataderos

Sunday, April 26, 2009

This is our last day in Buenos Aires, our journey ends tomorrow when we fly back home to Honolulu. We spent the day at Feria De Mataderos, a fair held every Sunday where they have dancing, pony rides, crafts and a bunch of food!

They have these weird snacks...can anybody tell me what this is? It's some kind of candied popcorn with some weird black stuff on top. It kinda looks like prunes from far away but when you look up close it's some kind of candy. I think.

This is the popcorn with fruit on top

mmmmm...empanadas!

How come mines didn't turn out like that?

Maybe I need these ladies with these funny little white hats to help me!

Here's Randy eating Locro, it's a type of stew

It was actually pretty good!

Here's our pork sandwich, I forget what it's called. YUMMY!!

Buenos Aires Day 10 - Wall Art

Saturday, April 25, 2009

This posting is dedicated to my good friend Jalna, for who, for some reason, is intrigued by wall art...I found a whole bunch while walking around Palermo today. Some of them are bizarre! Enjoy, Jalna! :)

Jalna - if you look closely, a few of them have either their website or flickr site on their wall...

Buenos Aires Day 9

Colonia, Uruguay

MECLIZINE IS THE BEST MEDICINE EVER!!!!!!!! For those of you who don't know, the ocean and I just don't get along...I get seasick at the calmest conditions. When I went to Alaska last year, my doctor prescribed me Meclizine and I was very worried that it wouldn't work. To my surprise, I was able to tolerate a 3 hr whale watching cruise!! I never leave home without it now if I know I'll be doing anything possible to do with the ocean.

Randy and I took the Buquebus to Colonia, Uruguay. It's a one hour ferry ride and thank god I had my medication cause the boat was rockin! I had to get up in the middle of the ride to use the bathroom and I had to hold on to everything in sight because I couldn't keep my balance. Anyways, Colonia is a very quiet little town in Uruguay, not much there but like La Boca, the buildings have lots of color! Great photo ops here. Here's some sights around town...

Yeah, we couldn't resist...he petted the dog and he followed us around for awhile...

I was taking pictures of kids in a schoolyard when these boys noticed me. They started waving and posing...so cute, yah?

This is the sunset from the ferry ride home...
