Moanalua High School

Randy's niece Kristin graduated from Moanalua High School yesterday. I hate graduations, they're long and they're beginning to make me feel REALLLLY old. To make things worse I got attacked by 5 or 6 vicious red ants!! Anyways, it was a beautiful evening for a graduation, but it rained for about 10 minutes (go figure...) during the ceremony. It cleared up eventually and we all got to congratulate her in the typical Hawaiian style...
Johnathan was playing around and I thought it looked kinda neat with the lights behind his head

Hilo...part deux

Sunday, May 16, 2010
Hilo, HI

After the rain stopped in the morning (yah, it rained again...do you have to ask??), we headed out to Queen Liliuokalani Gardens to try and get some family pictures. It surprisingly stayed pretty dry until the very end where mother nature had to make her presence known and sprinkle some lovely raindrops on us...

Here's a few pictures that we were able to take before we had to run back (well, not run...but walk very quickly!) to the car:
This is the big and evil dog Kiki that attacked me on Saturday...

** Jenny just happened to remind me that on the way to this bridge, Kiki went to attack a little kid and he almost fell into the water!! It was pretty funny cause the boy looked around 10 years old and to see him jump around like that cause a little 10 pound dog was barking at him was HILARIOUS!!
Ok, I think it will be a few years before I go visit Hilo again...maybe next time I'll try again in the summer??

I flew all the way to Hilo and all I got was....RAIN!

Saturday, May 15, 2010

I was watching the news the other morning and some joe-schmoe took video of the lava flow out in the Big Island somewhere (of course, I wasn't paying attention to actually "where" he was filming). Since I had extra miles, I called my good friend Jenny who lives up in Hilo to tell her I wanted to get some pictures and if her and her family would like to come with me. Of course the good friends that they are, they let me stay with them and they were my tour guide for the 24 hours that I was there.

This turned out to be the trip from hell....no offense Jenny, not because of you, and I know you know this, but it was because Mother Nature hates me. Period.

When I first arrived and was getting settled in at Jenny's house, I got to meet her dog Kiki for the first time. Of course, the dog lover that I am, I went straight up to her and started giving her some lovin', and she bit me! TWICE! You'll see in the post tomorrow how BIG AND EVIL this dog is...the whole weekend she would not come near me.

It was finally time to head out to the volcano, and when we arrived, the parking attendant told us that there hasn't been any activity for NINE DAYS. What? The stupid guy on the news just showed the video! Yes, it would've been nice to actually pay attention and find out where the guy shot from but I was too excited! Anyways, she also told us the lookout point was a mile and a half from where we parked. Everybody was all amped to go, even Emi...
When we got there, this is what we saw...ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME???!!! That could pass for city lights!! Oh, and to put things into perspective, this "flow" was about a mile away...which was off limits to walk to.
I literally took one shot and then the downpour came. I thought I could sneak in a couple more shots before actually ruining my camera, but I guess not. Here's what came out. I was totally panicking in the dark trying to keep the camera dry and not shaking it at the same time...I think this was a 2 second exposure or something like that.
I guess if you don't look really close at the blurriness, it kinda looks like the lava is flowing...hahahaaaa!
Ok, so we figured we should get the hell out of there before I ruin any of my stuff...or was it because Emi kindly told us (or should I say shouted at us!), and I quote "THIS IS THE WORST ADVENTURE EVERRRRRRR!!!" and then she got even more mad and told us "I WANNNNNA GOOO HOOOOMMME!" HAHAHAHAHAAAAA! Poor ting, she was soaked!

This is my mad group of friends when we got back to the car...Roy, Paul, Jenny and Emily
I told them to take a happy shot but Paul and Emily was still mad...
We tried again, and yup, Emily still just wanted to go home!
I of course was furious!
But I decided to put on a happy face for the camera...but not Emi! hahahaaa!
After our little excursion, we picked up some pizzas for dinner. We also thought we'd relax and have a few drinks, so I picked up some tonic water to make vodka tonics. I was making the very first drink and when I went to open the tonic water, the damn thing exploded all over me! Ugh! I just had dried off from the rain and then I was soaked again!!! >:( Yes, this is day one of my trip to Hilo....
