I Love Liliha

Sunday, August 29, 2010

I was finally able to attend this year's I Love Liliha Festival because they changed it to a Sunday! It's been on Saturdays in the past and I've always been working and couldn't attend. Also, as a bonus, they moved it to Kuakini St, which is literally a hop, skip and a jump from my house. I went to the festival early (with the dreaded 100mm macro in hand, I thought I'd do a little experimenting -- big mistake!!) and I was planning on returning later on in the afternoon but it got so darn hot that I didn't want to leave my air conditioned house after lunch!

It was a very tiny festival, and for those of you who know the area, it started from here (at the intersection of Kuakini and Liliha St)
And it ended here! Hahaha! If you don't know this, Long's and Liliha Bakery are next door neighbors!
The Royal Hawaiian Band started off the festivities
There were lots of free activities for the kiddies
I was wondering what all the commotion was about over here, then I noticed it was a booth from Creations By You
You could make your own little trinket
oooh, my favorite! I was a good girl and didn't buy one.
I met up with my neighbors, here's Dustin spinning the wheel hoping to win something good...
Something tells me I should've stopped by this booth...
It got really hot and i'm sure the shave ice booth made a lot of money!
I hope they plan on keeping it on Sundays from now on!

Tag the World 2010

Sunday, August 22, 2010
Kapiolani Park/Walls Waikiki (?) I think that's what that beach is called!

This was the 2nd annual Tag the World biathlon held in Waikiki. Besides being a global charity, it also benefits Kids Hurt too, a program to help out the foster children in Hawaii. I volunteered for this last year and had a great time...I couldn't wait for it again this year. They changed it up a little this year, instead of a triathlon, they shortened it to a biathlon, which was good for me because I took pictures of the bike leg last year and it was kind of boring. There weren't as many celebrities this year but it was still good fun!

You can check out all of the pics from today here...

The two founders of the event, Hannah Cornett and Robert Parks-Valletta
Returning celebrity Jeremy Jackson
The bachelor Jake Pavelka
Maka'ala Perry sang Hawaii Pono'i and the Star Spangled Banner
and they're off!
The water must've been really bad because there were only a few people that were smiling as they came out of the water!
This was the first place finisher...
Jeremy finishing strong
Race for the finish!
