San Francisco, Day 7

Castro
Baker Beach

Randy and I woke up early this morning to take a good power walk around the neighborhood. By 10:00 he was hungry so we walked up the street to Roxies. Both Ron and Randy from Kaiser recommended this place to get some good sandwiches. Doesn't Randy look like a criminal?? That's him in the navy blue jacket if you couldn't tell...

This is the beauty of staying at a place close to the restaurant. We brought everything back to the apartment and comfortably ate it there. This is my salami sandwich ($5.99). It was good, but I prefer Little Lucca's. Their sauce is what makes it better than all the rest.
Randy had the salami too, except he had a soft white bread (I had dutch crunch) and mines was heated up.
The weather was horrible in our area so we drove to the Castro, (where there was sun!) and walked around there. It's the first time I've actually spent time there, boy that was an experience!
Here's Randy praying to the the tequila gods
For lunch we stopped by Dino's Pizza, on Fillmore. It's no Lombardi's, but it was still yummy.
Later that evening I met the Romano's at Baker Beach to take some family pictures. IT WAS FREEZING!!
Randy and I snuck in a couple of pictures too...

That first picture is sooo funny. Looks like the three girls are each trying to steer clear of Randy! I love the one of him kowtowing to the truck. The sandwiches look EVIL!

The picture of Randy praying is sooo funny. Who's idea was to do that?

Jalna - That's what I said! When I was taking the picture I was cracking up cause I told him he looked like a hoodlum. Sandwiches were good, but like I said, Little Lucca's was better :P

Erick - thanks! I think I'm done eating for awhile. I don't think I should eat anything for the next week. I gotta go on a diet and maybe just drink water! hmmm...we'll see how long that lasts!! haha

Yosh -- OMG. no comment. It was overwhelming. I'm surprised you never went there when you came up. It's a trip!

mmiissee -- completely his idea. He told me to take his picture and all of a sudden I see him crouching down next to the truck. I almost couldn't take the picture cause I was laughing so much!

You're a brave soul to go to the Castro. LOL!! About as bad as going to the Tenderloin. I'm too chicken. Love the shots on the beach with the Golden Gate in the background. How awesome is that and that it was clear too to see the bridge. I like Randy's beard, but I like beards. Gerry has a full beard, he does pretty good in keeping it trimmed so I say something. :) How much longer are you two in town?

Oh my gawwd Betty, I've walked through the Tenderloin, at 11:00 at night! The last time we were here we accidentally strolled through there, I wanted to kill my husband cause he wanted to go that route! (he didn't actually know it was the tenderloin, but he was drunk and he didn't know any better...)

We leave tomorrow morning, I'm soo sorry I wasn't able to get in touch with you, we've been on the go the whole time. I'm actually in the apartment only for a few minutes until we gotta go out again :|

Oh, I'm sorry that we didn't get to connect too. But that's ok. I'm just glad you were able to have a good time and hopefully you did all you wanted to do. Oh, my goodness, 11pm in the Tenderloin. The times we've been there have been during the day (Gerry's oldest son lived there for quite a few years and we went over there to find him. It's a long story!) I hung on tightly to Gerry!! Too spooky.

Yah Betty, we were lucky to get out of there in one piece! :|

Is Tenderloin not a good place for tourists? I've never hear of Tenderloin.

Les said...

mmiissee -- oh, NO! NO! NO! you should stay away from there...it's a little part of the city that's totally ghetto. We just happened to wander over there by accident

The Tenderloin is the Skid Row of SF and worse. All kinds of bad things going on and law enforcement everywhere. It can be "colorful" at times, however definitely a place to stay away from.
