MRI Magnet Installation

Saturday, June 20, 2009
11:30 p.m.
Ala Moana Office

Yeoh & Muranaka Radiology recently purchased a 1.5T Toshiba MRI scanner. A bunch of us co-workers came down to watch the installation of the 9000 lb magnet...

This is the tiny room that it will be installed in.

Since the installation wasn't scheduled until 2:00 am, of course we made a party out of this and brought a bunch of food...

Iris brought these Filipino mochi ball thingys and Marvin and I can't for the life of us remember the name! They were yummy though!

I made 7 layer dip...

Iris also brought yakisoba and lemon chicken (at least I think it was lemon chicken!)

Marvin's yummy spinach rolls

He also brought a salami and cheese platter

Dr. Sue's chicken katsu from Zippy's

Boiled peanuts

and a refreshing fruit platter

1:30 am...some on lookers watching the crane get ready for the big haul...

The crazy gang that actually showed up for this!

Kris, Haunani and Tysha stopped by after their late night at Pearl

This is the HA-YUUUGE crane that had to lift the magnet

It's now about 3:00 and the magnet is finally ready for liftoff!

Here it is getting ready to swing over the 4th floor parking lot

Now the decent down to the third floor...

Yay! It made it in one piece! Marshall is very happy!

Iris can now breathe and celebrate that nothing was damaged in the process...

The big bosses watching over everyone to make sure nothing goes wrong...

Wait a minute...a 4.5 ton magnet is gonna be placed on these little skateboard-looking wheels? Aiyaeyae!!

Time to drag it to the MRI suite...

*YAWN* it is now about 5:00 am and the magnet is still not in the suite. I'm too tired to stay and I want to go to bed. Goodnight! Or should I say good morning?!

That is a huge magnet! Great job of documenting the journey of the huge magnet. Very cool!

Thanks Erick! It was very cool, except that the lighting conditions were horrible! A lot of my shots were done at 1600 ISO, f/2.8 at 1/10-1/30! ugh!!!! It was hard keeping my hands steady!
